Seattle Sports Teams Show their Love for Animals

Seattle has the great privilege of being home to three professional sports teams: The Seattle Sounders, The Seattle Seahawks, and The Seattle Mariners.  One of the great things about living in a city where professional teams play is the fact that these teams and their individual members give back to the community in various ways.

It’s not uncommon for us to see pictures of players visiting kids in the hospital or speaking to elementary students about the importance of being healthy and fit.  However, one of our personal favorites here at Hillrose Pet Resort is the commitment that our Seattle sports teams have demonstrated for the care of our furry friends and more specifically, bringing attention to the joy of pet adoption.  Here are some truly heart-warming stories about our Seattle sports teams and players sharing their love for animals.

Seattle Mariners: Bark in the Park

Major League ballparks all around the country have hosted the Bark in the Park event, inviting fans to bring their dogs to the ballpark and enjoy America’s favorite pastime with their furry friends.

These events are fun for the entire family and the Mariners and Safeco field make it easy for owners to enjoy the day with their pets by providing plenty of water stations, a designated area to sit with your dog as well as a designated area for your pet to “take care of business.”   Once the game is over, dogs are invited to go down to the field and walk the bases with their owners.  The best part about this nation-wide event is the partnerships that are formed with local rescue and pet shelters bringing attention to the need for pet adoption and responsible pet ownership.

You can visit the official Seattle Mariners website for dates and details about Bark in the Park events.

Seattle Seahawks & Kevin Pierre-Lewis to the Rescue

Seattle Seahawks linebacker Kevin Pierre-Lewis has been an animal lover all of his life and has a passion for helping pets find their forever home.  One case particularly close to his heart involved a pit bull named LeRoy. You can learn more about Kevin’s life-long love for all animals, including reptiles.  Kevin believes his platform with the Seattle Seahawks provides a great opportunity to bring attention to this issue.

“I have a unique opportunity to be able to give back. While I’d be helping animals even if I wasn’t a Seahawk, I have more of an influence since I’m on the team. I’m glad to help. And when you see the joy in an animal’s eyes, there’s nothing like it.”

While Kevin Pierre-Lewis has certainly done more than his share of animals, his Seahawks team will not be outdone.  The Seahawks hosted the Weiner Dog Races during halftime at a Sunday Night football game in December.  This event benefits Old Dog Haven, which provides over 200 older dogs with a refuge foster home to help them live out their final years happily and peacefully.

The Seattle Sounders

The Seattle Sounders have also demonstrated their love and care for pets as they’ve partnered with the Seattle Humane Society and the #GoodPlayoffsKarma event.  As the Sounders anticipated the 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs, they also spread some good karma hosting a number of dogs and cats who were in need of a forever home.

This was a hugely successful event and we’re proud of our Seattle Sounders. Not only for what they do on the soccer field but for their care and concern for animals in our community.

We are very proud that our three Seattle professional sports teams have demonstrated such care and concern for the four-legged creatures in our community and we’ll be sure to share more events like these with you in the year ahead.
